May 21, 2008
The Fund for Colorado’s Future announced today that nineteen students involved in its High Horizons Program have been named recipients of the Daniels Scholarship and will be attending colleges and universities across the United States in the fall.
From the sixty-four High Horizons nominations, Rochelle Collier, Kevin Dam, Mariam Ibdaiwi, Huyen (Linda) Le, Hong-Linh Nguyen, Cheng Yang, Stella Blashock, Roman Castorena Hernandez, Karlee Gradishar, Alex Bass, Clayton Ermel, Gregory Gallus, Alisa Kulbeth, Joshua Larimer, John McKinnon, Ana Conchas, Mercedes Montano, Jaime Hontz, and Whitney Veenendaal were selected for the scholarship by the Daniels Fund.
“These are outstanding young people and it has been a privilege to work with them as they have pursued the goal of attending college,” said Terri Hill, Executive Director of The Fund for Colorado’s Future.
In establishing the Daniels Scholarship Program, cable pioneer Bill Daniels was seeking promising students with financial need whose academic performance may not necessarily reflect their potential, but who demonstrate strength of character, a well-rounded personality, and a record of accomplishment in giving back to the community.
“These are promising and motivated students determined to succeed in life, but lacking financial and other resources to continue their education,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “They are outstanding young people and the Daniels Fund is proud to partner with them as they fulfill their dreams of attending college,” she said.
